Letter for St. Joseph’s Day
My very dearest Pueri Cantores Family!
May I cordially greet you all today, the Feast of St. Joseph, Husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Step-Father of Jesus and Patron Saint of the Church and of all Families. I am writing to you today, because in these present circumstances, with the fear all around us of the coronavirus threat (COVID-19), we do truly need Peace, Faith and Solidarity.
While reading about St. Joseph (Mt 1,18-25; 2,13-15.19-23; Lk 2, 41-52) we can clearly feel his inner PEACE and his gentle acceptance of God’s will. Inner peace is very difficult to achieve and we must continuously strengthen ourselves through prayer: “Thy will be done”.
When we observe the life of St. Joseph, we can see how he accepts everything in a spirit of FAITH. This reminds us of another Joseph, whose complicated story (Genesis 37 and 39-50) shows that God will help us to make sense of, and to find virtue in any situation. And we know that this is still true today… even in these difficult times. God never abandons us!!!
It is important that the gifts of Peace and Faith are always accompanied by SOLIDARITY, which means giving support and care for others at many different levels: in our homes, in our choirs and our communities, in our parishes, within the borders of the countries where we live, in the national federations we belong to, as part of the International Pueri Cantores Federation and throughout the whole world.
I care for all of you and send you all a friendly hug directly from St. Joseph’s tender arms. Especially I pray for all our friends in Italy and in all those places afflicted by this awful virus. We are with you! We pray for you all and for the good health of everyone throughout the world!

May I suggest that Our Family Pueri Cantores unite in prayer, through the intercession of St. Joseph. Let us pray every day, if possible, at exactly 8:00 p.m., so that we can truly feel part of the thousands of girls and boys who will be praying together all over the world:
St. Joseph, teach me a Faith filled with trust in a God who watches over us.
Teach me how to live my life listening to God’s voice.
Teach me how to meet Jesus, who came to this world to save us.
Grant us good health, help us to overcome this epidemic and grant us all strength and grace, so we can usefully give assistance to all those who need help. Amen!

Meine Lieben, Liebe Familie der Pueri Cantores!
Ich grüße Euch herzlich am Festtag des Heiligen Josef, des Bräutigams von Maria und des Ziehvaters von Jesus. Er ist gleichzeitig auch der Schutzpatron der Kirche und der Familie.
Ich schreibe es am heutigen Tag, wo die gegenwärtigen Umstände und die Gefahr des sich ausbreitenden Coronavirus (COVID-19) zu spüren sind: wir brauchen mehr Frieden, mehr Glauben und Solidarität.
Wenn wir über die Rolle des Heiligen Josef lesen (Mt 1,18-25; 2,13-15.19-23; Lk 2,41-52) sehen wir seinen inneren FRIEDEN und seine sanfte Unterwerfung unter Gottes Willen. Dies ist eine schwierige Tugend, die wir im Laufe unseres Lebens lernen und betend mit den Worten wiederholen: “Dein Wille geschehe”.
Wenn wir auf das Leben des Heiligen Josef blicken, sehen wir, dass er alles im Geiste des GLAUBENS akzeptierte. Der heilige Josef erinnert uns an einen anderen Josef, dessen komplizierte Geschichte (siehe Kapitel 37 und 39 – 50 im Buch Genesis) zeigt, dass Gott aus jeder Situation Sinn und Gutes ableiten kann. Wir müssen glauben, dass jetzt das Gleiche geschieht. Gott wird uns nicht verlassen!!!
Es ist wichtig, dass die Gaben des Friedens und des Glaubens von unserer SOLIDARITÄT begleitet werden, d. h. von gegenseitiger Unterstützung und Fürsorge, auf verschiedenen Ebenen: in unserer Familie, in der Chorgemeinschaft, in der Kirchengemeinde, innerhalb der Grenzen unseres Staates, in dem wir leben, in der nationalen Föderation, der wir angehören und in der Internationalen Föderation der Pueri Cantores, sowie auf der ganzen Welt.
Ich möchte bei dem Gebetsanliegen keinen vergessen. Um ihm aber eine gewisse Dimension zu geben, möchte ich, mit voller Zuneigung und mit ausgestreckten Händen Josefs, unsere Freunde in Italien umarmen. Wir sind mit Euch! Wir beten für Euch und für die ganze Welt!
Schwestern und Brüder!
Ich möchte Euch vorschlagen, dass sich unsere Familie Pueri Cantores auf Fürsprache des Heiligen Josef im folgenden Gebet vereinigt. Beten wir es jeden Tag, wenn möglich, um 20.00 h, so dass wir das Gefühl haben, dass gleichzeitig viele tausend Mädchen und Jungen auf der ganzen Welt die gleichen Worte wiederholen:
Heiliger Josef, lehre mich einen Glauben des vollen Vertrauens, dass Gott über uns wacht.
Lehre mich, wie ich leben soll, um die Stimme Gottes zu hören.
Lehre mich, Jesus zu sehen, der in diese Welt gekommen ist, um uns zu retten.
Erbitte für uns Gesundheit sowie Erlösung von der Epidemie. Gleichzeitig schenke allen,
die anderen Menschen helfen, Deine Kraft und Deine Gnade. Amen!
Ich sende Euch allen meine Zusicherung des ständigen Gebetes und meinen Segen.

Carissima Famiglia dei Pueri Cantores!
Vi saluto cordialmente, nella festività di San Giuseppe, Sposo di Maria, Protettore di Gesù e al tempo stesso patrono della Chiesa Universale e delle Famiglie.
Vi scrivo proprio in questo giorno perché, nel momento in cui sentiamo la nostra sicurezza minacciata dalla diffusione del coronavirus (COVID-19), abbiamo bisogno di pace, di fede e di solidarietà.
Prendendo esempio dalla figura di San Giuseppe nel Santo Vangelo (Mt 1, 18-25; 2, 13-15.19-23; Lc 2, 41-52), vediamo la sua PACE interiore e la sua dolce sottomissione alla volontà di Dio come una qualità spirituale che ricerchiamo per tutta la vita ripetendo nella preghiera: Sia fatta la tua volontà.
La vita di San Giuseppe mostra un uomo che accetta tutto nello spirito della FEDE. San Giuseppe rievoca un altro Giuseppe, la cui complicata storia (Genesi capitoli 37 e da 39 a 50) ci ricorda che in ogni situazione il Signore Dio si rivela capace di portare significato e bontà. Dobbiamo credere che sarà lo stesso ora. Dio non ci abbandonerà!
È importante che i doni della pace e della fede siano accompagnati dalla nostra SOLIDARIETÀ, cioè dal sostegno reciproco, dalla cura per gli altri, a diversi livelli: nella nostra casa, nella comunità del coro, nella parrocchia, entro i confini del paese in cui viviamo, nella nostra federazione nazionale a cui apparteniamo, più in generale all’interno della Federazione Internazionale dei Pueri Cantores, ma anche nella dimensione del mondo intero. Non voglio trascurare la preoccupazione che accompagna questi giorni, ma piuttosto donarvi un gesto concreto: abbracciare i nostri amici Italiani con le tenere braccia di San Giuseppe. Siamo con voi! Preghiamo per voi e per il mondo intero!
Sorelle e fratelli!
Propongo che la nostra Famiglia dei Pueri Cantores si unisca nella preghiera per intercessione di San Giuseppe. Recitiamolo ogni giorno, se possibile alle 20, in modo da sentire che nello stesso momento molte migliaia di ragazze e ragazzi in tutto il mondo ripetono le stesse parole:
San Giuseppe, insegnami la fede piena di fiducia in Dio che veglia su di noi.
Insegnami a vivere ascoltando la voce di Dio.
Insegnami a vedere Gesù che è venuto in questo mondo per salvarci.
Rendi la nostra vita piú sana, l’epidemia sia allontanata, e a tutti coloro
che danno aiuto, dona la forza e le grazie necessarie…. Amen!
